For welders, fitters, masons and operators, the trade test or client interview is usually the single deciding factor in selection. Documents get you to the test; skill gets you the job.
Know the test format
Ask in advance what will be tested. A pipe welding test, for example, involves a fixed joint position — very different from flat-position work. If the client is interviewing for TIG and ARC, be ready to demonstrate both.
Bring your own basics
Where permitted, bring your own hand tools, safety shoes and helmet. Being equipped signals professionalism.
Practise the specific position
If you have been working in one position for years, spend a few days practising the position that will actually be tested.
Understand the drawings
Many candidates lose marks not on technique but on reading the drawing incorrectly. Take a minute to study it before starting.
Safety is assessed too
Assessors watch how you handle equipment. Following basic safety practice consistently counts in your favour.
Know your own numbers
Be ready to state clearly how many years you have worked in the trade, on what kind of projects, and what certifications you hold. Vague answers cost selections.
Client interviews are held at our Mumbai and Kolkata offices depending on the mandate. Contact us to know the schedule for your trade.
